Tattoo Removal with Q-Switched Yag Laser
At our Halifax location, Q-Switched laser is used for the removal of unwanted tattoos. This is the best laser technology for tattoo removal. The very specific frequency of laser light is pulsed in billionth of a second increments, which breaks up the ink particles to make it possible for white blood cells in the skin to clear the scattered ink particle debris.
Each treatment causes a thin layer of ink to be cleared, allowing subsequent treatments to reach deeper into the skin to treat the next layer of ink. It usually requires 6 to 12 treatment sessions to provide good clearance, occasionally more are required. Only black, dark blue, red and brown ink can be removed. Other colours may respond poorly or not at all. The risk of scarring is low at less than 5%. Patients are required not to expose the treatment area to ultraviolet light during the course of treatment. It is good to think of tattoo removal as a 1 to 2 year project and have patience, as treatments have to be scheduled 8 weeks apart.
Individual consultation with a laser technician or with Dr Van Aardt is required for an assessment and fee quote. The fee for treating smaller tattoos is $100 per square inch. Larger tattoos are assessed and quotations given on an individual basis.
